Hub Staff

Our Saugeen Memorial Hospital proved to be the ideal backdrop as local staff and regional executives from SNC-Lavalin wheeled in a cheque for $10,000 in support of the Gran Fondo August 19 fundraiser.

In particular this welcomed donation will recognize SNC-Lavalin as the Platinum level sponsor for the 30km route.

“The community has embraced us and this is a great way for us to give back,” said SNC-Lavalin Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Raj Verma when asked why it was important. He went onto say, “This was a great way to do it as we have a number of SNC employees who are avid bikers. We made a commitment to come into this community. This is an opportunity to expand the hospital and the community itself.”

Donna Chappelle, Site Manager for the Southampotn hospital; Sharon Van Valkenburg, Accounting Officer and Jonna Ebel of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, each remarked with support and gratitude for these types of events where such community joint efforts are required to fund the operation of a modern hospital.

Foundation Executive Directore Sally Kidson explained in a media release that each of the four rides in the Gran Fondo is named after sponsors. This 30k route known as “From Farm to Shore and Back” and now with its SNC-Lavalin sponsor is the shortest route and is expected to be the most popular with recreational cyclists.

Fittingly the chosen route passes in front of the new SNC-Lavalin offices.

SNC-Lavalin staff on hand were given the royal tour of the hospital’s new emergency wing.
