concussion 560Whether you are involved in physical activities as a participant, a parent, or a coach, it is essential to be aware of the risks and symptoms of brain injury. To help spread this message, the Town of Saugeen Shores, in partnership with the Grey Bruce Health Unit, will be offering a free, informative concussion seminar on Wednesday, September 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Rotary Hall at the Plex in Port Elgin.

The seminar will be led by Health Promoter, Amber Schieck and Grey Bruce Health Unit Public Health Nurse, Lisa Prowd. Topics include: how to prevent and recognize a concussion, return to learn and play, Rowan's Law, and working together to develop policy in our community.

Following the presentation, the public will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion.

“This is such an important health issue,” said Jayne Jagelewski, Director of Community Services. “We are encouraging all of our facility users, sports leagues, and community groups to attend this seminar. Whether this is the beginning of the conversation for your organization or an opportunity to revisit your current policies, we encourage everyone to take advantage of this session.”

No registration is required and anyone with an interest in the topic is encouraged to attend. For more information, please visit the saugeenshores.ca event page.
