In an April 11 media release, the volunteer Board provides financial and quality oversight for the Corporation and its six hospitals as well as ensuring that GBHS delivers on the mission, vision, values and strategic directions outlined in its recently released Strategic Plan.

"This is an exciting time to join our Board, as we are about to start a major renovation at our Southampton Hospital, and we have approval to build a new hospital in Markdale," said GBHS President and CEO, Lance Thurston. ”Serving on the GBHS Board of Directors is an excellent opportunity to work with a skilled and dedicated group of individuals with a common interest in ensuring quality health care is available for Grey and Bruce residents."

The current four vacancies will be filled by election for a term of up to three years, and may be re-elected for an additional two terms.

Applicants must live within any of the catchment areas served by GBHS, which includes the Bruce Peninsula, Centre Grey, Owen Sound, Meaford and Saugeen areas. Two applicants will be elected as members at-large, and two will be selected as geographic representatives for Meaford and the Bruce Peninsula.

Prior governance experience and familiarity with the health care needs of the Grey Bruce area are considered assets. In addition, applicants preferably will have experience in one or more of the following areas: clinical services, law, information systems and technology, patient advocacy, business and/or healthcare.

GBHS is a recognized leader in rural health care, with fast access to services, some of the shortest surgical wait times in Ontario, and among the highest patient satisfaction scores in the province. Our team of 1600 staff, 250 physicians and 1,100 volunteers works together to deliver exceptional care to residents and visitors across Grey Bruce.

The deadline for applications is April 26, 2016. Applications are available online or by emailing or calling Joanne Carter at jcarter@gbhs.on.ca or 519-376-2121 Ext. 2801.
