The third annual Saugeen Shores Comedy Festival is setting Saugeen Shores and area up for a laugh during three nights of comedy with two shows in Saugeen Shores and one in Kincardine.

The first night of stand-up will take place at Port Elgin’s Chester’s Bar & Grill and includes standup’s Lianne Mauladin and Paul Thompson. Mauladin hosts and produces the Mary-Janes of Comedy Show, the longest running all female stand-up show in Toronto. She has also preformed on ABC's ‘The View’ and her comedy has been recorded and or televised on Bite TV, iChannel, Sirius XM Radio, CBC’s LOL and Rogers TV. Thompson, who is returning to Saugeen Shores, is fresh off his spot at Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival.

Also taking the stage at Chester’s is Comedy-Fest organizer and comedian Blair Streeter of Saugeen Shores. Streeter said it’s easy to signup comedians for the three-day festival. “[The comedians] start asking about it in November so that's one reason we have many of the same acts, another is that people learn to love these guys and are constantly asking for specific acts they've seen before, especially Lianne Mauladin, who was a big part of the first festival and Paul Thompson who is returning for the third time,” said Streeter in a August 22 e-mail.

Streeter credits the success of the festival to Saugeen Shores’ ability to laugh at themselves. “After three years I think we've all figured out that Bruce County loves to laugh at themselves almost as much as they love to laugh at the people in the next town over so if you're in Southampton, make fun of Port Elgin and even the people from Port will appreciate it,” he said, adding that outside of that “well planned and well executed jokes told by professional comics work in any town.”

Kincardine’s Gilly’s Feed Lot will also host a Friday evening show that features Canadian Comedian Ron Vaudry who has hit the international stage and is known for his spot on CBC's Comics! and The Late Show with Arsenio Hall. Lianne Mauladin will also take the stage with appearances from local talent Dylan Trachan and James Ramage, the evening will be hosted by one of Kincardine's favourite out-of-towner, James Hammond.

The Saturday Gala of the Comedy Fest will take over Southampton’s Town Hall with 20 percent from online ticket sales going towards the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation. The show will feature the aforementioned acts as well as Keith Pedro who has appeared on CBC's Halifax Comedy Festival, MTV, FuseTV and MuchMusic's Video On Trial. The Saturday show is unlicensed with Streeter welcoming families with older teenagers to attend but wants to remind audience members that there will be mature comment.

Tickets can be purchased online at saugeenshorescomedy.com which includes a three show festival rate of $45. Chester’s and Gilley’s tickets are available at their respective venues while tickets for Saturday’s Gala are available at Cathy's Flowers and Gifts at 683 Goderich Street in Port Elgin.
