Southampton’s Ashley Gordon (author A.A. Gordon) was invited by Brucedale Press to the Port Elgin Farmers’ Market August 16 to promote her latest book in the Dowrra Series. “Bloodline” is the second book in a set of paranormal erotica novels with the first book, “The Wayside,” having been released in March of this year.

“There’s five [books] for sure planned, I’m working on book three right now, there may be a book six,” said Gordon, adding that how she decides to end book five will determine whether or not there is a book six.

Gordon said the series follows a progression of events but that each book tells the story from the perspective of a different race and the characters walk in and out of each other’s stories.

“It’s basically about a war between humans and vampires,” she said, adding that book one was from the perspective of the vampires and centred around two main characters, Miguel and Gwen. “The vampires aren’t your typical euthological creatures, they’re actually a race that’s been living among us since the beginning,” she said, adding, “They not monsters, I call them unapologetic vampires... they’re very real in a sense.”

Because Gordon is also a history student the books carry a significant cultural aspect. “[The vampires] come from Ancient Greece, Egypt, Rome, so they’re interesting characters because they’re so old,” she said.

The second book in the series follows three main characters, Serena, Attula and Cian, members of a second race in Gordon’s paranormal world called Empaths. “So they have empathic abilities and they’re kind of at war with the vampires too.” Gordon said that the reader struggles with rooting for different sides because of the shift in perspective from one book to the next, explaining that Serena, Attula and Cian from book two are actually enemies of book one’s Miguel and Gwen.

Gordon, who is now 26, said she’s been working on the series since she was 16 years old. “It’s a very developed world, it’s quite complex.”

Bloodline was released mid July and Gordon said she has had positive feedback from readers with regard to both books. “I’ve had people who said vampires weren’t their thing or that they didn’t like romance or erotica say that it was very tasteful and say they loved it," Gordon said, adding, “I’ve had people who said they didn’t read say they read it in six hours.”

Both titles "The Wayside" and "Bloodline" are available electronically through Kindle and Kobo with paperback copies available through amazon.com.
