Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey will be hosting their International Woman’s Day (IWD) celebration March 4 at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre in Port Elgin. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. with Yuk Yuk’s set to bring some laughter to the annual event.

Karen O’Keefe is billed as sarcastic, silly and always witty. Hailing from Canada's Northwest Territories, she began her comedy career in Calgary and now lives and laughs in Toronto. O’Keefe shares her take on dating, drinking and getting along with other humans, usually while in front of an audience. She has made several television and radio appearances, including CBC's Halifax Comedy Festival and The Debaters. In addition to performing stand-up, O’Keefe has written for This Hour Has 22 Minutes and is a co-producer of the SheDot comedy festival in Toronto.

Michelle Shaughnessy is said to make everyone laugh. In the past few years this young comedian has really made an impact on the Canadian comedy scene. Rising through the ranks of the comedy clubs, Michelle has gone on to become a comic in demand. She’s landed television appearances on The Comedy Network, W Network, Bite TV, CBC, iChannel, and MTV. Shaughnessy can also be heard in regular rotation on XM Satellite radio and has performed in the Sudbury Comedy Festival, Moncton Comedy Festival, Global Vancouver Comedy Festival and CBC’s Winnipeg and Halifax Comedy Fests.

In addition to the comedic acts, last year’s trivia game was so much fun it will be returning. Brush up on your Women’s House knowledge for a chance to win an Apple iPad Mini donated by Bruce Power.

Attendees can also bid on the amazing items in the live and silent auctions. This year, the Owen Sound Attack have donated a fantastic auction item and Elgin Jewellers have donated a $700 TW Steel watch. The watch can be seen on the Women’s House Facebook page.

Not only is the Women’s House IWD event a celebration but it is also one of their major fundraisers. The purchase of a ticket is not only going to provide you with an afternoon filled with great food and entertainment but also the chance to support a worthy cause in our community.

Women’s House has had some difficulty meeting fundraising targets this fiscal year and would appreciate your support with this major fundraiser.

Tickets for this event are $50 and are available at Lakeshore Recreation in Port Elgin and Gordon’s Pharmasave in Kincardine or by calling Tiffany Love, Community and Fund Development Coordinator at the Women’s House at 519-396-9814 extension 225.
