From sacred drum songs to a broken heart medley, the students of St. Joseph’s Catholic School put on a show to celebrate the Arts, April 28.

Senior Concert Band conductor and teacher Claire Andrusiak, said the Senior Band, who performed What a Wonderful World and Gioacino Rossini’s William Tell Overture, will also be performing at Canada’s Wonderland Festival of Music next week.

“We’re going to be playing the same music we played here tonight,” Andrusiak said. She added that she was happy with their performance. “I think they did great (tonight), they worked really, really hard for tonight, they had a great rehearsal this afternoon and a great concert tonight.”

The Junior Choir, who dressed for the Malt Shop, had many solos as well as dance moves during their Broken Heart medley, that garnered laughs from the audience.

The Primary Choir’s earnest and adorable performance of faith based songs Lord I Lift Your Name on High and Awesome God, brought smiles to the crowd.

The guitar duet by student Collette Barrett and her guitar instructor Roger Williamson, of the Eric Clapton classic Wonderful Tonight was a standout performance.

Barrett, who has been playing guitar for four years, said the Art Showcase was her first time performing in front of a large audience and that “it felt good.”

“My guitar teacher introduced [Wonderful Tonight] to me and then he created the piece, so we just played it and it sounds really nice,” said Barrett.
