Described as a “musical stew”, the Something Different Musical Extravaganza will be a music to the ears when it takes over Port Elgin’s United Church, April 23.

The extravaganza, now in its second year, is a concert-fundraiser for the popular Summer Music Camp in Southampton, which this year takes place July 25 to 29 and is for any artist four-years-old and older.

Produced by local music aficionado John Stewart, the Something Different concert will feature up to 70 performers, from the jazzy Noodle Factory, to the blues rock stylings of local band Settle the Ghost. Keyboardists Kevin Moyse with bassist Karen May will perform contemporary rock, and Katherine Martinko’s fiddle band High Strung, will also be featured. The Rolling Thunder, a 50 person rock choir will support the singers.

Summer Music Chair, Sheree Lake challenges anyone who attends to stay in their seats.
“What is special about Something Different is that audiences are accustomed to seeing performers in small groups, but with Something Different we meld it all together, so we have all these people participating simultaneously, in their various instrumental or vocal combination in their various genres,” Lake said, March 22.

“Comments from a survey we took last year were that, ‘it was a gift, and any better it would be a sin,’ and that the concert was, ‘truly remarkable. So many extremely talented people came together to support such an important program’,” Lake quoted.

Tickets for Something Different Musical Extravaganza fundraiser are on sale in Port Elgin at Blackboard Sound, Rabbit Dash, and Hoofin’ It; Southampton at Bayberry’s and Owen Sound’s Long and McQuade (formerly Fromager Music). Or call the box office at 519-483-2222. Tickets $25, students $15.
