coco fullThe Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) invites music lovers to enjoy a new three part concert series. The Museum’s licensed theatre provides an intimate setting for an eclectic mix of concerts from soulful pop to jazz and jazzy-reggae.

Coco Love Alcorn starts the series off on March 5. Her powerful voice has been described as “a sensual alto that elegantly captures old school soul” (The Hamilton Spectator) and Sing Out! Magazine says she has “the feel of classic R&B but with a modern singer-songwriter’s sensibility”. But no matter the genre, there is always one vital element running through Coco’s music – improvisation. Her “leap and the net will appear” performance style brings audiences along for the ride, and makes every live show a once-in-a-Coco Love Alcorn lifetime experience. “I love that anything can happen,” she said, adding “it’s unique to that moment, and it sparks people on a spiritual level.”

Then on April 9, Orchid Trail takes to the stage with a premier concert composed for the electric harp, flute, bass and drums – a most unlikely combination ever to be heard! Featuring renowned Michigan harpist Kerstin Allvin, the remainder of the quartet are local musicians Michael Grace on bass, Meryl Gilmore on flute and Stephen Wood on drums. "The quartet has a strong rhythmic influence,” said Mike Grace, “allowing us to broaden our repertoire, morphing into Latin and swinging sections. Obviously the drums make a big difference in that regard."

A concert by Jason Wilson and The Perennials wraps up the series on May 7. Wilson is a two-time JUNO nominee, Canadian Reggae Music Award winner who combines reggae roots with the improvisational sensibility of jazz and then layers it with the storytelling quality of Scottish and English folk traditions. Wilson is joined by world-class musicians - Marcus Ali, Patrice Barbanchon, Perry Joseph, Andrew Stewart, and Zaynab Wilson.

Concerts begin at 8 p.m. with doors and cash bar opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Museum or by calling 519-797-2080.

Individual concert tickets are $20 for Museum Members and $25 for non-members. Enjoy all three concerts with series tickets available at $48 for Museum Members and $60 for non-members (all pricing is plus tax). This series is sponsored by 92.3 The Dock.
