The inaugural Glow Rider Family Bike Night was a hit with kids and even few parents as many jazzed up their bikes, their helmets and themselves with glow products in order to enhance the theme of the night, October 7 at Nodwell Park.
Organized by the Town of Saugeen Shores the free Glow Rider Family Bike Night featured a barbecue dinner hosted by the Southampton Rotary Club, a mini Bike Rodeo by Saugeen Shores Police and a unique bike collection as well as tune-ups and last minute minor repairs from Martin’s Bicycle Shop.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit was present to offer bike safety tips and proper helmet fit checks and a decoration station manned by the Liv-A-Little Foundation added a little more razzle dazzle to the bicycles and participants.
Event organizer, Town of Saugeen Shores Marketing and Programs Coordinator Heather Lorenz said, “We’re pretty lucky to get our glow on,” and mentioned support from the Town of Saugeen Shores, event sponsors and the Chamber of Commerce who donated a few glow products that would have been made available during the Labour Day fireworks display. The Labour Day presentation was cancelled due to high winds.
The Town of Saugeen Shores is working with Share The Road to become a designated bicycle friendly community and Town Recreation Supervisor Lisa Billing said that the Glow Rider Family Bike Night coincides with having a bicycle friendly community. “It’s something fun for kids to do, something different and something to do in the fall.”
There was plenty to do at the inaugural Glow Rider Family Bike Night including a bicycle safety course.
