nochanceA third period onslaught by the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks turned a tight low scoring affair into a decisive 6-2 win Saturday for the Winterhawks who improved their season record to 1-1.

Andy Fracz teamed up with Bryan Kazarian and Jacob Brown to put the Winterhawks on the board in the first period.

The lead was short-lived as the Thundercats’ Randy Cox tied it up with a breakaway goal past Hawks’ goalie Josh Sturrock.

That was it for the scoring until early in the third period when Dave Grant cracked open the floodgates just over three minutes into the frame. Assists went to Brent McDermid and Trent Hawke.

Thirty seconds later Curtis Johnston made it 3-1 for the Hawks with Fracz and Kazarian collecting the assists.

Another thirty seconds and another Winterhawks goal, this time off the stick of Jacob Brown who played a strong two way game.

The fans had to wait a full minute for the next Winterhawks marker, Curtis Johnston's second of the game, with assists again going to Kazarian and Fracz.

Chris King scored to make it 6-1 midway through the period with assists going to Greg Wardell and Dave Grant.

Durham got one back with 20 seconds remaining but that was as close as the Thundercats would get as they suffered their second straight loss.

Andy Fracz was awarded the Wismer House Player of the Game.

The Winterhawk's next home game is Friday when they host the Ripley Wolves.
